We are writing this letter on behalf of Abbey Allen, who has been a friend of ours and our dog Bosco's (a chocolate lab) for 6 or 7 years. Abbey met Bosco when he was a puppy, and has worked with us on and off for subsequent years.
She has dog-sat for us for several days to a week or two at a time - sometimes staying at our house with Bosco, other times caring for him at her own home. Abbey is the only reason we can travel comfortably - all prior arrangements we had ever made for Bosco's care were unsatisfactory.
While with Abbey, we feel he is being cared for at least as well as if we were caring for him ourselves. She walks him, feeds him on schedule, administers meds if need be, plays with him, allows him to romp and explore.
Abbey has shown excellent judgement - contacting us only once over the years when she has had Bosco under her care, and in that case the contact was justified and her follow-up with the vet superb. She handled the emergency wisely and called us to reassure us once it was under control. This is one of many, many examples of her attention to a dog's needs and her awareness of the time when intervention is required. The only problem we have with Abbey - without question - is that if Bosco were given the choice as to who would parent him, his answer would be unequivocal and we would come in a distant second.
Abbey loves animals - and at least in Bosco's case - the mutual love affair was instantaneous and has lasted for many years. His hips start to swivel as her vehicle enters the driveway. In addition, we have found Abbey to be personally responsible, delightful and flexible. We recommend her without qualification.
